A capybara in a hoodie waving, hello written on it in many languages

Words for the road, a few minutes a day.

Languages for Nomads helps you learn the words you need when you land somewhere new. Hello, thank you, how much, where is the bus.

We are Marcia and John MacDonald, the two people behind The Long Way Mac. We travel slowly, country to country, staying three or four weeks at a time, and each new place starts at the market, the pharmacy and the bus stop.

Marcia and John MacDonald

Georgia became the exception. We plan to spend three months there every year, so Marcia started learning Georgian. John's app to teach himself Futhorc and Old English became Languages for Nomads, starting with Georgian.

Every course follows the same travel path, from the first hello to the bus, the menu, the pharmacist and the border. Where the script is new, you learn the letters first.

It takes a few minutes a day. New words come in small batches and come back just before you would forget them. Many words have a picture, and after you answer you can hear the word spoken.

You set the pace, and your numbers are your true numbers. It is free.
