30 Essential Thai Phrases for Your First Trip to Bangkok
Thai is a tonal language: the same syllable said with a rising or a falling pitch can be two different words. Each phrase below gives its tones, and the recordings let you hear them.
Two small words make Thai polite. A man ends what he says with khrap, a woman with kha: sawatdi khrap is hello from a man. Each phrase is shown in Thai script, with a guide to saying it and its meaning. Every word in these 30 phrases is taught in the course, so this page is a first taste of what you'll learn. Press a voice to hear it.
